General English Courses

We provide our students with a number of options in General English courses to suit all needs and budgets.

General English forms the core of our teaching programme. Morning classes are based around a coursebook lesson, followed by a Speaking & Listening class. Afternoon and intensive courses offer you the chance to focus on specific language areas and may include afternoon options depending on your learning needs and preferences.

Morning General English G20AM

Who is it for? This course is great for students who wish to study in the morning and have enough time to make the most out of afternoon social activities or a part-time job.

Course description: This course is very popular among our students and includes 15 coursebook lessons a week and 5 Speaking & Listening lessons per week. All lessons are teacher-led, dynamic and cover the four main skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Intensive General English G25

Who is it for? G25 offers a good balance between studies and free time in the afternoon.

Course description: The course includes 15 coursebook lessons, 5 Speaking & Listening lessons and 2 extra afternoon sessions per week.

Afternoon General English G15PM

Course description: Our low-cost afternoon programme. On this course you experience the usual guarantee of British Study Centres high-quality teaching and small classes, but at a reduced price. We are able to offer a lower price in the afternoons as we have more classroom capacity at this time.

General English Plus Business English Course

Course description: This course consists of 15, 20, or 25 lessons of General English and 10 (London) or 5 (Oxford & Brighton) lessons per week of specialised Business English in the afternoon

This practical course is designed to both improve your level of English and widen your knowledge of specific vocabulary in a work context and business situations.

The business English component covers but is not limited to meetings, negotiations, advertising, marketing, presentations, business communication, decision making and many other topics.

Exam Preparation

Whether you are required to take an IELTS, TOEIC or TOEFL exam to enter a university in the UK or wish to study towards obtaining the FCE or CAE Cambridge certificate, we can provide the right exam preparation course for you.

IELTS Preparation Courses

Course description: A combination of 15 lessons of specialist IELTS preparation and 5 lessons of Speaking & Listening. For an intensive course, add 5 or 10 extra lessons per week of afternoon options.IELTS is an increasingly popular exam taken by students who plan to study at university in the UK, either for a first degree or a Master's. We offer a bespoke course which helps you prepare for the exam.

General English Plus TOEIC or TOEFL Preparation

Our TOEIC and TOEFL courses are designed to both improve your overall fluency and focus on perfecting your examination skills.

The programmes have weekly start dates and include a combination of 20 lessons of General English and either 2 private exam preparation lessons per week throughout the year or 5 lessons per week in mini-groups in summer. Course description: A combination of 20 lessons of General English and 2 one-to-one lessons per week in which you can focus on exam practice techniques with your teacher.

Cambridge Exam Preparation Courses

Our preparation courses for the world-famous University of Cambridge exams are offered at First (FCE) and Advanced (CAE) levels and give you the opportunity to study for an internationally-recognised qualification.

The aim of these courses is to give the student the necessary grounding to enable them to pass the exam, and also to have learned a lot of English. 

Course description: Cambridge First and Advanced exams cover writing, reading, grammar, listening and speaking and the course at British Study Centres will prepare you for all these different parts of the exam. The course works across the skills base and concentrates on English in use. We look at past papers and work from a number of recommended books.

In addition, you will do a lot of work on areas of general English, so you certainly will not spend all your time doing practice exams. At the end of the course we want you to pass the exam but also to have learned a lot of English and to have enjoyed your stay.
